Wale ~ Headliner
You pronounce his name: Wah-Lay! He brings many blessings on the mic and he’s from D.C. Rap heads and broader music fans know that the nation’s capital is both a blessing and a curse. It’s an intensely musical city, volatile, stratified, somewhat disenfranchised. Natives often chirp about the ‘crab-in-the-bucket’ syndrome when it comes to artists’ getting up and out. But without struggle there is no progress. And when they do get out, boy, watch out.

K-von ~ Host
Exploding onto the national scene, K-von has been dazzling audiences with his ‘Hip Pop Culture’ brand of comedy. With recent appearances on MTV and SHOWTIME, he is becoming increasingly popular on screen as well as in comedy clubs. Instead of going to Law School or pursuing the normal “good Persian son” path to medical school, K-von opted to follow his first love, making people laugh! He left the pursuit of Dentistry to his younger brother.

Fishbone ~ Headliner
Legendary in the history of American Ska, Rock Fusion and (so-called) Black Rock, Fishbone started their twenty five-year long professional career in Los Angeles’s burgeoning, illustrious Alternative Rock music scene of the mid-1980s. Their sound has often been imitated, but never duplicated. Angelo Moore’s ability to combine thought-provoking, humorous, social commentary with Fishbone brethren’s frenzied, up-tempo music and a frantic, euphorically entertaining stage show has cultivated their undisputed reputation as one of the best live acts in music history. Moore is renowned as one of the very best live showmen; Gwen Stefani of platinum-selling Ska/Pop band No Doubt sites Moore as her idol.

Dujeous
Dujeous. Pronounced doo-jee-us. But it’s not about their name, it’s about who they are: a seven-man band, raised in the ways and days of old New York. Friends since elementary school, the Dujeous crew blew up through the NYC underground, selling out clubs, throwing monthly showcases that featured the best MCs in the Northeast, and burning up the airwaves of the legendary Stretch Armstrong radio show. Fast-forward a few years and see who they are now: explosive live performers, feared MCs, in-demand musicians, and well-established producers.
John Graham
John Graham has been performing music since 1996 when he first realized his gift of freestyle However, it wasn’t until he moved to the Philadelphia metro area in 1998 to attend Lincoln University that he would meet some of the most influential M.C.’s that would water the soil for his passion of music to grow.
John Graham is not seeking to gain world-wide notoriety as the next big thing in entertainment. His motivation is pure and from a foundation of love and light. John’s intention is to create music that will open dialogue between all races, cultures, political affiliations, and beyond as we all must face issues that supersede any of the things that keep us divided. His smooth delivery and ability to speak to the inner being of his listener ensures that no matter what you look like on the outside, you will feel the power of a message that is nothing short of inspiring to the individual within!
MisNomer(S)
Korean-American sisters born and bred in the Buffalo ‘burbs, Knewdles (MC) and Sos (Violin) are the hip hop duo aptly named Misnomer(S). Whether it be the Asian female rapper angle, the prodigal hip hop violinist factor, or the two hot sisters hook, it matters not– Misnomer(S) backs up any claims of novelty with quality music, a ‘killer live show’ (as the NY Post writes), and a level of professionalism all too rare in today’s rap game.
In the wake of the collapse of the music industry as we knew it, Misnomer(S) has taken it back to a grassroots level, performing over a hundred shows in the New York City area, planting roots in Brooklyn’s most well known hip hop home, Bed Stuy, holding a monthly Youth Open Mic with the sponsorship of the Brooklyn Public Library, and continuing to be active in their various communities.
At the same time, Misnomer(S) has kept an eye on the national stage, with credits that include starring in a national tv/print/internet campaign for Converse One Star/Target, a featured promo spot for the upcoming Def Jam RapStar video game, acting/performing roles and sole soundtrack credit for Nelson George’s latest project ‘Left Unsaid’, and self-producing & starring in a documentary-style reality show pilot, ‘Knewdles & Sos’, based around their lives and music.
With their self-produced debut album ‘American I(s)’ slated for release in 2010, Knewdles & Sos are only just getting started. Who knows where Misnomer(S) will surface next.
Camp Arawak
The story of Camp Arawak goes back to a dozen years ago. There is “Love” in this music infused with a Punk ethos based in pure quirkiness. Camp Arawak feels like an experiment/dissection of familiar ideas, forms and notes pasted back together to create something completely different. No judgments and no egos, Camp Arawak members agree to always disagree and continue to entertain their legions of “Campers” worldwide.
Stonethrown
Since their inception in 2006, Stonethrown have accomplished many of their goals. They have performed over 500 shows to date, including sold out shows at the internationally renowned World Cafe Live and The Trocadero in Philadelphia, Pa. Between 2009 and 2010, the band secured performance slots at The Dewey Beach Pop Fest 2009, the Dewey Beach Music Conference 2009, The Dewey Beach Pop Fest 2010, The Millenium Music Conference 2010, The Launch Music Conference 2010, The M.E.A.N.Y. Fest 2010, the 1st Annual Atlantic City Music Conference 2010, and the 1st Annual Philadelphia International Film and Music Festival. They posess a relentless DIY (Do It Yourself) spirit and promote their music with the same passion that drives their songwriting and live performances. As a result, they’ve generated a buzz that has allowed them to appear on national FM radio stations 93.3 WMMR, 94.1 WYSP, 104.5 WRFF, and 98.1 WOCM. Said radio stations have played and still play some of Stonethrown’s music on air. Recently, the band licensed SIX songs off of “Where You Stand” to MTV2 Canada, Nickelodeon Australia, and Nickelodeon New Zealand. Nominations include, “Best Rock” by The Independent Singer/Songwriter Association and “Philly Artist of The Year,” by The Deli Magazine. “The Nightmares ep,” which is set for release in July 2010 has a single called “Feelin” which has been picked up by FM radio station 104.5 FM WRFF Philadelphia. It premiered on the station’s “New Music Show” on June 20th 2010. Currently, the band is wrapping up their summer dates and are going to be writing and rehearsing with a new member line up for upcoming tour dates in Fall 2010.
Jamie Alimorad
In an era of music where record sales are down, downloads are up and monotony rules, there is also a crave for something new and exciting. With music available literally at the click of a button there has never been a larger audience looking for something new and exciting. Enter Jamie Alimorad, an award-winning singer and songwriter. Influenced by artists such as The Tubes and The Beatles, Alimorad began writing and performing catchy, yet sophisticated, pop/rock songs. His electric voice and shows have left a lasting impression on audiences and have made him one of the best up and coming acts.
Born in New York in April of 1988, Alimorad was raised on many classic and eclectic artists. At the young age of 3, Jamie began to be proficient in a number of instruments, while at the same time, honing his vocal talents. In 2003 as a freshman in high school Alimorad began acting in the school plays. He became the first freshman in his school’s history to get the lead role in the annual musical, which that year was Little Shop Of Horrors. His performance earned him a Helen Hayes Theater Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role and in June, 2003 he became the youngest person to ever win the award at 15. That year he also performed a duet with Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater. From 2004-2006, Alimorad was lead in a number of other productions including Barnum, Les Miserables, Bat Boy: The Musical and Honk!. He was also nominated for three more Helen Hayes Awards in that period.
Alimorad began attending Northeastern University in the Fall of 2006. There he majored in music technology and minored in music industry. He formed the band Gemini and began performing gigs throughout Boston. They played to their largest audience on July 3, 2007 in Gloucester, MA for the annual Horrible’s Day Parade to over 10,000 people on a float. They played their last show at Northeastern University’s campus nightclub afterHOURS in March 2008.
After the band dissolved, Alimorad actively pursued a solo career. In October 2008 he began to put together a band and started performing around Boston and Cambridge at local bars and clubs and developed a strong college following. A year later he performed as part of The Next Big Thing festival at the Worcester Palladium and won best act. On February 11, 2010 Alimorad represented Northeastern at the annual Rice & Bean Pot at the Paradise Rock Club and played to his largest audience at 2:00 AM on April 11, 2010 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY.
Alimorad finished recording his debut EP and it will be released in the summer of 2010.
3 In Counting
3 in Counting came together in 2005 when Mike Hayes came home for the summer from Western Illinois University. While at college, he had written some songs and wanted to jam, so he called up his two friends, Eric Csukor (keyboard) and Evan Behmer (drums).
Pleased with how they sounded, yet realizing they were missing a bass player, they dubbed themselves 3 In Counting. Eventually, they met Rob Kletsky (bass) by chance at a party, and he became the fourth member of the band.
Along with their easygoing personalities, 3IC offers a sound that connects with fans of all age groups, Influenced by jazz, heavy metal and lyric-rich acoustic rock, and inspired by the likes of Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime and 311, the band gives listeners a unique blend of sounds.
3 In Counting has a strong stage show with major energy and personality, and takes pride in having a blast on stage. As a rock/pop/jam band, certain things are improvised on stage, pushing the envelope of acoustic pop music with doses of jazz influenced piano, bright funky bass lines, heavy drum beats, upbeat guitar and undeniable vocals. It is this kind of crowd appeal that the band believes helps them continually draw new fans.
Bender
Bender is a New Jersey based band that plays a combination of original tunes and their own interpretation of classic rock standards. The band is comprised of two 50-something veteran players who were housemates and band mates while attending SUNY Oswego in the mid-1970’s, and two 30-something players who have a deep respect for the classic rock sound of the 60’s and 70’s. Bender started playing regularly at the Whiskey Grille in Atlantic City and has most recently been heard at the Great Notch Inn in Little Falls, NJ.
The founding member – Barry Bender – is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer, arranger, producer and teacher. Barry was inspired by his musician father, Herbert Bender, who died when Barry was 16. Although Barry began playing music at age five, he didn’t begin his music career until after the death of his father in 1973. Barry studied music in college, playing mostly jazz while listening to and being inspired by popular artists of the day like The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Frank Zappa, and Jefferson Airplane. Barry’s current music, self-described as “100% original, organic, hand-made with a message” is a rich composite of classical/jazz theory and the heartfelt folk-rock influence of the 60’s and 70’s. Barry lives, works, and records in Atlantic City, NJ.
Bender’s drummer (and Barry’s former roommate) – Rich Kalinsky – has been playing for over thirty years. Rich has studied jazz greats like Elvin Jones and Art Blakey and, like Bender’s other members, his influence by 60’s and 70’s rock is obvious. Currently, Rich resides in Chatham, NJ where he hoards his collection of vintage drum kits and works as a film industry exec. Rich can be heard performing with multiple bands in the New York City area.
Bender’s guitarist – Jeff Phillips – was brought on board by Rich. Jeff lives in North Jersey where he runs a rehearsal studio and gigs regularly with a number of bands.
Bender’s bass guitarist – Russell Hubley – was brought on board by Rich. Russ lives and works in Brooklyn, NY where he regularly gigs with various bands.
Billy Becks
William Beckford, better known by his stage names Billy Becks or Billy Da Kid is an American Rapper. He is currently doing his music independently under label Give It 2Em Entertainment. Billy Becks was born William Beckford on July, 5 1983 in Belle Glade, Florida and raised in South Bay, Florida by his mother with his seven brothers and three sisters in the county of Palm Beach. He attended Rutgers on a full scholarship upon being ranked one of the top rated football players in the country. Billy has always been intrigued with Rap/ Hip-Hop and has been writing rhymes since adolescence, but really started to consider rapping a primary career after suffering a serious football injury in college that left him inactive for almost a year. In summer of 06’ Billy won the Streets Mos’ Conference with what was said to be his ‘southern swag and northern witty flow’ and upon winning was labeled “Streets Mos’ Magazine” Street Artist of the Year. A conference that was won a year earlier by the rapper formally known as “Papoose” a New York native that at the time had just signed a large record with Violator/ Jive and had a really hot street buzz. As “Street Artist of the Year” Billy release his first mix tape ‘Wanted’ in which, he had features by a number of well known rappers. One being the Philadelphia P.A artist known as Cassidy, he and Billy collaborated on a record called ‘Give It 2 Em’ that immediately started to catch fire and get spins on major, independent, and also internet radio. Reakwon and J.R Writer was also amongst the crazy artist line-up that Billy was able to put together for his first mixtape. Since then, Billy has been extremely active in the mixtape circuit, working on his debut album, and also performing numerous venues.
Belikos
When the Belikos family takes the stage they can make the good kids dance like dosed up sex addicts and convince clergy to give the devil a chance. Once the music takes off and the boys lock in, the House of Belikos becomes a symbiotic, chaotic swirl of motion. The crowd moves to the pull of the music. No one sits, their bodies won’t allow it. This show and its music are something unique, but while the energy of Belikos is born from passion and their sound from inspiration Belikos is influenced by generations of rock legends and hip hop heroes.
Since joining forces in Ann Arbor in late 2006, Belikos has moved east to New York City and has been taking over the east coast piece by piece. They have played clubs, venues, and festivals from CMJ College Music Marathon, Piano’s, Santos Party House the Bitter End in Greenwich Village, Southpaw in Brooklyn, and Webster Hall in Manhattan, the Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, headlining the Utica Music Festival in Utica, to even performing alongside Lifehouse and Matt Nathanson.
Belikos is not tame and they are not clean cut pop stars. They are rockers, they’re funky rappers with a cocky grin; they scream with a cymbal crash and their bodies thrash when the guitar wails, distorted and shaking the stage. And when you look out across the floor of a Belikos show you’ll find they have found fans in nearly every circle. Hardcore kids, the jazz aficionado, the soul fan and the die-hard hip-hop devotee all move with the music. Their live show is intoxicating. It’s music that commands a crowd to its feet and gives their hips a pulse. Their shows, their songs, the boys, they give it all up on the stage and you can hear on their record that it doesn’t stop there.
As the Belikos sound is a collision of musical traditions Belikos itself is a collision of unique talents and personalities.
Revolution, I Love You
Revolution, I Love You, like the 1968 Paris Student Uprising that inspired the band’s name, is a volatile mix of impulses that come together in a joyous riot of sound. Their music is an eclectic blend of indie rock and dance beats: “[It] may be relatively indescribable, but that doesn’t mean it’s not also mighty fine. Revolution, I Love You’s overall effect might just restore your faith in rock & roll.” (AudioXposure)
Although RILY’s music has a layered complexity that suggests a five-piece group, the “band” is only two men: Rob Lindgren and Jason Reynolds – two men with enough ingenuity and fearless curiosity to create sophisticated and challenging music that you can’t stop dancing to.
Rob Lindgren, lead singer, guitarist, and sometimes synth player, swaggers and thrashes across the stage. With a lean look reminiscent of early Elvis Costello, and eerie, stripped-down vocals, Lindgren’s vitality infuses the audience. His energy onstage is only matched by his wide-eyed enthusiasm offstage.
Jason Reynolds, keyboards, back-up vocals and guitarist, stands behind a barricade of equipment, giving the show the intensity of a classical pianist deep inside a sonata. Combined with Lindgren’s ecstatic dancing, the two convey a frantic-yet-controlled stage energy that reflects the essence of their music.
Currently, RILY is taking time to write for their forthcoming EP set to release this spring 2010. Once spring arrives, the band plans to tour the college circuit with shows scheduled throughout the northeast, east coast and Midwest. Look for RILY at a college near you this spring.
War Plan Red
The brainchild of guitarist Justin Bottega and bassist Mike Lynn, the core of WAR PLAN RED was formed in late 2008. In August of 2009, after many frustrating line-up changes, the duo acquired drummer Andrew Oliva, who had worked with Mike in many other bands throughout their college years (-RHYS-, Autumn Hour, Head Traffic).
Combining influences such as Audioslave/Rage Against The Machine, Led Zeppelin, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, WAR PLAN RED began writing and recording their self-titled debut EP, which was produced under Andrew’s start-up record label, Shorepoint Records, and released on June 15th, 2010. In the months that followed, WAR PLAN RED has been steadily building a core fan-base in the Central NJ and Jersey Shore areas.
Through scorching, intense live performances and masterful songwriting, WAR PLAN RED is quickly separating themselves from other local bands in a grossly oversaturated New Jersey music scene. Between edgy vocals, poetic lyrics, screaming guitars, powerful bass and pounding drums, WAR PLAN RED is a tour de force of musical excellence just waiting to be unleashed on the unsuspecting public.
Against the Tide
A truly unique melodic rock band whose songs are just as likely to get stuck in your head as they are to melt your face, AGAINST THE TIDE was formed in the summer of 2009 by bassist Mike “Mazz” Mazzeo, lead guitarist Dave Madura and drummer Kevin Reviello. After adding rhythm guitarist Mike “Skatz” Scasserra, the group sought out to find a singer. Within a short matter of time, they came across singer/songwriter Lauren Ashley Grygo. The connection was made immediately and music was flowing faster than their minds could think. And through countless hours spent together writing music, wreaking havoc, and sharing laughs, they grew to be a band, as well as a family.
Combining influences such as Paramore, Muse, and Incubus, AGAINST THE TIDE teamed up with Shorepoint Records to produce and record a 6-song debut EP, entitled “Insomnia,” which was released on March 23rd, 2010. In the months that followed, AGAINST THE TIDE has been steadily building a core fan-base in the Central NJ and Jersey Shore areas.
Through feverish dedication and energetic live performances, AGAINST THE TIDE is quickly separating themselves from other local bands in a grossly oversaturated New Jersey music scene. Between dynamic vocals, heart-felt lyrics, bright guitars, sharp bass and tight drumming, AGAINST THE TIDE is sure to connect with anyone who is fortunate enough to come across their music.
Bern and the Brights
“Bern & the Brights” began as just a phrase, a gnawing hunch that woke singer Bernadette Malavarca in the middle of some night way ahead of the band’s formation. She jotted it in a notebook with the rest of the thought: “Gonna start a band. It’ll be Bern & the Brights… should be sleeping.”
Two years later Bern & the Brights are rapidly growing to be one of North Jersey’s most promising bands. In this short time, the band has performed nearly 200 shows, has been selected as The Aquarian Weekly’s 2010 “On the Verge Band,” has been featured on 101.9RXP during the Local Licks segment on The Rock Show with Matt Pinfield and Leslie Framm, and has been highlighted as one of the top 300 NYC-area bands by The Deli Magazine, among such artists as Titus Andronicus, Ra Ra Riot, The National, and Vampire Weekend. And in their first year alone they earned the NYC Emerging Artist of December 2008 and were highlighted among the top 50 NYC Emerging Artists of 2008 at The Deli Magazine, sharing that category with other indie artists including: Chairlift, The Vivian Girls, and April Smith and the Great Picture Show.
The band is known for their evocative and energetic live show. With radiant chemistry and strong musicianship, they create an infectious, positive emotionality that takes over and transforms any room. Their fan base, playfully referred to as The Light Brigade, is ever-growing, and spans a broad range of people who connect with the band’s organic and romantic sound. Their sound has been described as “effortless genre-bending,” and they have been compared to stalwart artists such as R.E.M., Dave Matthews Band, Jeff Buckley, and Coldplay.
Bern & the Brights are currently finishing up an EP due out this June and have a heavy tour scheduled in support. This band is DIY through and through, from booking to recording. You’ll catch them hand-packaging their CDs before shows and cutting up fliers listing their tour dates (and probably hand-delivering both to you with a friendly smile and a hug).
Lushlife
Cassette City, the appropriately titled second album from Philadelphia-based sonic auteur Lushlife, has not only breathed new life into hip-hop, returning it to its former glories after a prolonged period of stasis and creative indulgence, but has also harnessed hip-hop’s original spirit of wanderlust and connected it to a futuristic vision of what it could, should and would be.
Indeed, as befits someone who first shot to fame with West Sounds, an unforgettable melding of Kanye West’s The College Dropout and The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, the way these two aesthetics collide and merge is fascinating. As Lushlife suggests, sometimes it’s hard to know where the samples end and the instrumentation begins, such is the blurring of these two worlds.
But then, hip-hop in its purest form has always been defined by musical collage. Before blueprints were drawn and battle lines had been laid down, hip-hop, as Grandmaster Flash once memorably described it, was whatever you could get your hands on. From Led Zeppelin to Minnie Ripperton, Kraftwerk, and Michael Jackson, iconic sounds from across the musical spectrum came together to create those first unforgettable records. In that sense, hip-hop has always been the perfect post-modern art-form – a blank canvas upon which to sketch out new musical dreams. Cassette City is the summation of this theorising.
True Witness
True Witness is a New York based band. Their positive contemporary style of music is a blend of acoustic and electric rock that identifies with all age ranges through various instrument arrangements, inspirational vocals and rhythms. The band originated in 2002 with Tom Bowen, Tim and Dan Adams. They closely collaborated with published poet and lyricist, Christine Bowen, and the band proceeded to develop their unique original musical compositions and eclectic styled arrangements.
Their journey began in Florida but in 2003, True Witness wanted to enhance their style and focus of music by moving to the Hudson Valley region of New York to perform throughout the Northeast and New England. Their passion was to present thought provoking songs that describe life’s struggles, and to show a need to discover that love is enough. The purpose of their music is to offer clear, simple solutions of hope. The band’s commitment is to provide an encouraging positive message in these tough times. Their distinctive rock sound offers an alternative of strength, faith and hope to everyone living through the struggles and challenges of each day.
True Witness released their first acoustic CD album, “Origins” on December 16, 2007. The band released their more progressive second CD album, “Once In Time” on March 30, 2008 in which they also launched their “LOVE IS ENOUGH” tour ’08. The “LOVE IS ENOUGH” tour ’08 was a 10 state tour spanning over 7 months, with 60 plus dates. Amongst the multi date tour, True Witness performed at premiere venues like The SoulFest 2008, Utica Music Fest ’08 and BeachFest ’08.
School Of Rock All-Stars
The School of Rock Music is the original performance based, interactive music school, founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They proceed from the belief that the best way to learn to do almost anything is by doing it, and they feel that this is particularly true about music. Therefore, from the moment that a student joins a School of Rock, he or she is playing music; loud and with other musicians and on genuine equipment, and before long, they have their students playing shows. These are not your old-fashioned-wait-through-fifty-other-kids-magling-their-songs-until-your-child’s-turn-arrives recitals; these are real rock concerts at real rock venues before real rock audiences, complete with light shows, stagecraft, and (when appropriate) smoke machines. The School of Rock Kids are seasoned performers, and have played over 350 concerts to more than 100,000 people, at legendary venues.
The Spanish Channel
The Spanish Channel grew up hoping to fill out an Armani suit with an open collar, to have beautiful slicked-back hair, and to share a starlit dinner with a deep-eyed brunette by the pool of their villa in Bogota, moments before being assassinated. Instead, They ended up in Brooklyn. The Spanish Channel is Romantic Nerd Rock: catchy uptempo songs with harmony vocals, influenced by Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, New Pornographers, and Ben Folds.
Koldera
“Koldera was created in the summer of 2007. Origionally the group was made up of a 3 pice acoustic act. Later the group began what was to be a full band studio project. But after the first 3 songs were recorded and released to the public the demand for more was so great that the group knew they had something special and could not stop with just a studio project. They had no choice but to develop the group into a full 5 pice band.
Today koldera is a melodic power-house, with the combination of heavy guitar driven rythems, accompanied by deep, and twisted melodic vocals, heart-ripping leads, powerful drums, and blood crushing basslines.”
Ryan
Ryan represents a fresh, new face in music whose diverse sound covers an exciting and distinct fusion of Pop and R&B. As a young singer/songwriter of exceptional talent, Ryan envelopes the soulful essence of pop and the electric energy of the best new age beats. Ryan’s creative talent is eclipsed only by his presence as a performer, which promises to captivate the imagination of his audience.
It was through a providential meeting in the studio that Ryan came to the attention of Grizz Chapman, who stars on NBC’s Emmy Award winning show 30 Rock. Having cut his own unique path into the entertainment industry, Grizz noticed Ryan’s potential as an outstanding writer and performer and signed him to a management deal with his company, Dyman Entertainment.
Ryan’s journey as an artist has led him to draw inspiration from adversity. As a young man who realized early success in writing music for other artists, it wasn’t until he was faced with the loss of everything that he realized the importance of one’s own life story. Ever since, Ryan has been writing music for himself from his own heart and soul. Now, with his unique blend of pop and soul, Ryan’s music is fierce and yet inviting, both thought provoking and upbeat. He has set his personal and musical heights for the stars, and is currently taking spot dates performing his debut single, “This Could Be Love” as well as other songs from his upcoming album.
